Featured Projects
A closer look at four recent floor sanding jobs across Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
Every floor has a story. These projects show the range of work Russell handles, from heritage restorations to modern kitchen refinishing and coastal deck maintenance. All finished with professional-grade Bona products.
Spotted Gum Restoration
A 1960s Merewether home with original spotted gum floorboards that had not been touched in over 30 years. The boards were grey, scratched and had old lacquer peeling throughout. Russell took them back to bare timber with a full three-stage sand, filled all gaps with colour-matched filler, then applied three coats of Bona Traffic HD in satin. The natural warm tones and dramatic grain of the spotted gum came back beautifully.
Blackbutt Kitchen Refinish
An open-plan kitchen and dining area in a Hamilton terrace. The blackbutt floors had water damage around the sink area and heavy foot-traffic wear in the main walkway. Russell repaired the water-damaged boards, sanded the entire area uniformly and applied Bona Mega ONE in a matt finish. The result is a clean, modern look that matches the renovated kitchen perfectly. Blackbutt's pale honey tones brighten the whole room.
Coastal Deck Oiling
A beachside property in Nelson Bay with a north-facing ironbark deck that had greyed out from years of salt air and UV exposure. Russell sanded the deck back to fresh timber, revealing the deep red-brown ironbark colour beneath. Two coats of Bona Decking Oil were applied, chosen specifically for UV resistance and durability in coastal conditions. The deck now has full protection while still showcasing the natural timber character.
Heritage Floor Restoration
A circa 1920s homestead in Maitland with original tallowwood floors throughout. The owners wanted to preserve the heritage character while making the floors functional for modern family life. Russell carefully sanded the boards, preserving patina where appropriate and filling gaps with custom-matched filler. Three coats of Bona Mega ONE in satin gave the floors protection without making them look overly modern. The rich golden-brown tallowwood tones are stunning throughout the home.
